Active Shooter Training Exercise on FRC campus Wednesday, March 20 will affect campus operations.

Feather River College will be conducting an Active Shooter Training Exercise and Simulation on Wednesday, March 20. This is only a training exercise!

This will be a joint-operation law enforcement training that also involves a simulation exercise to help better prepare law enforcement for responding to an active shooter threat. You will hear gunshots on campus as the police will be shooting blanks during this training. While there have not been any known threats to Feather River College, the College does offer the ideal training location in its offices to conduct the joint-operation training exercise and is happy to accommodate law enforcement in their preparations.

DETAILS

  • There will be a hard road closure by the gate before the Science Building that leads to upper campus all day on Wednesday, March 20th. FRC staff will be stationed there to answer any questions and help people with drop-offs and those who need a ride up the hill.  No cars will be allowed to park up the hill beyond the gate (no visitor, reserved, nor ADA spots).
  • CHP and Emergency Personnel Active Shooter Simulation Training occurs between 12:45 - 4:00 pm in Student Services buildings in upper campus.
  • Student Services Offices will be closed starting at 12:30 pm and for the remainder of the day. All personnel in the building have been communicated with directly and alternate arrangements have been made if they are not volunteering.
  • Volunteers should report at 12:45 pm for check-in and safety discussion at Student Services offices.
  • You will notice a number of police and emergency personnel on campus Wednesday – be prepared for many police on campus in uniform with tactical training equipment.
  • Live shots (blanks) will be used during the training – be prepared for the sound of gun shots on campus over the course of the training exercise.
  • Students and staff may not be comfortable with the police presence and the sound of gun shots. Derek has communicated with faculty who have classes at the same time as the training to work with students.  Students may utilize the Mental Health Center if they are impacted after the event. Staff may utilize the EAP services available to employees.
  • Police and safety personnel will be using the Gallery in the morning on Wednesday.

OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS

California Highway Patrol (CHP) is taking the lead in this training. They are limited in their training dates and their access to the training materials, so the dates were not flexible. We recognize this will have an impact to FRC on the day of training. At the same time, we also acknowledge that FRC staff who have volunteered to participate will benefit immensely by the knowledge they can gain during the event. We ask that everyone be flexible during this training.
